What to Prepare

Please come prepared to take a full technique class co-taught by B.F.A. technique faculty.  You will be taking class with the full B.F.A. program.  You will NOT need to bring prepared movement or music.  Dance faculty will be observing all auditions.

What to Wear

For all placement classes please wear comfortable movement clothing and appropriate footwear for the dance form.

Results

The B.F.A. Dance Placement Auditions provide placement for admission into majors level dance technique classes.  An intermediate level at minimum of either Ballet or Contemporary dance will serve students best for placement into dance technique courses that are restricted to dance majors.

Sometimes as a result of the placement audition, dance faculty recommend placement in Topics in Dance (302T).  Placement at that level does not guarantee a student's enrollment in courses available to non-majors, however; it is an indicator of where the student will make the most progress at that particular time.

Note: No audition is required for TD 302T, TD 312T or TD 352T.  See catalog specific course requirements. Instructor consent may be required.

For Theatre and Dance Productions (T&D majors only)

Auditions for department productions are held throughout the academic year.  They typically take place near the end of the semester before the production is to be produced.  For example, auditions for the fall semester production will take place in or around April.  Once announced, specific audition information is sent via email to Theatre and Dance majors.
