About
Not to be confused with the Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop, TIW's Machine Shop is located on EER 0.442. Operating separately, but cooperatively with TIW, the shop has separate operating hours- 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Mon-Fri. This space has mills, lathes and other metal machining equipment. Any engineering student is welcome to use these machines for personal, school, team, or other projects. There is no charge for using the space. Students will need to supply their own material for their projects, and we do not sell any at this time. A comprehensive training is required that will teach you how to operate each of these machines and the general policies of our shop. There is no charge for the trainings and during each you make a trinket which is your to keep.
The manual mills and lathes are equipped with Digital Read Outs for easy measurements while machining. Each of them also have the tools you might need while machining.
For the manual lathes, you make an aluminum ring during the training.
For the manual mills, you make a small ring stand during the training.
