While I had originally desired to place a motor in the input link, the motors available to me at home didn't have sufficient torque to power the entire mechanism. When I placed the motor into the hole I had made, it spun the motor rather than the mechanism. However, I did get to experiment with Arduino code as well build the circuit for the motor using a motor driver to allow it to move forward and reverse. This was a useful learning experience even though I couldn't get my motor to function with my mechanism. The code as well as the setup for the circuit is shown below:
