Week 1 Tasks to Complete
At the Multilingual Aphasia and Dementia Lab, we provide training for our undergraduate research assistants to ensure they are well-equipped for their roles. Our training program covers essential skills, such as ethical considerations in research, the use of specialized software and equipment, and data analysis of raw data collected during specialized treatment protocols. Assistants will also receive hands-on experience through active participation in ongoing projects, guided by the researchers and clinicians. This training aims to foster a supportive learning environment that enhances both academic and professional growth.
If you have already been onboarded and have access to all the software and applications you need, proceed to the next tab. A reminder of the platforms needed are in the next tab.
En el Laboratorio de Afasia y Demencia Multilingüe, ofrecemos capacitación para nuestros asistentes de investigación de pregrado para garantizar que estén bien preparados para sus roles. At MADR Lab we use various platforms to perform clinical and research tasks. Because we work with patient information and data it is important that we are always HIPAA compliant. Below are the applications you will be using to day-to-day. You will be receiving emails inviting you to log in to the following:

Adding Hours to Google Calendar
After being added to the MADR lab’s Google calendar, you will want to add your hours to the “MADR Lab_Staffing” calendar. Here’s a video that walks step by step on how to add your hours:

Action Items ( / action item)
When creating an action item, it should always include:
A specific task indicating which project (VISTA, WAB, Connected Speech, etc)
Patient Codes if applicable
Due dates (by when is this due, or by when do you anticipate finishing)
People involved (who are you turning this in to, is anyone helping you?)
Macros
Explore macros to help make your lab notebook work for you.
You can highlight important information with / info panel
You can indicate a status with / status
You add tables or dividers ( / table or / divider)
If an important decision was taken for a project, indicate that with the decision macro [ / decision] (highlights the decision in a box with an icon to make it easier to locate).

Once you have finished completely onboarding and have looked through and understand all the lab policies, you will have a meeting with your direct supervisors to determine what tasks and assignments need to be completed. You will then be instructed to begin your training on a variety of tasks, which could include:

Among Microsoft’s platforms, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word are often the most challenging for first-time users. In this tab, you’ll find three detailed videos that highlight key features of each application. While the videos are fairly long, they include clearly labeled timestamps for specific features, so you can easily skip to the parts that matter most or the ones you are most unfamiliar with.
