Final Design: Ready for The Show
The Demo: It’s the Show Time
For the final demonstration of the project, we designed and build a mini robot car that would replicate a larger scale rescue vehicle. During the demonstration, we depicted car’s capability to change the radius from its minimum radius to maximum radius and vice-versa as per the requirement of the terrain/surrounding the robot is traversing. A simple joystick was programmed to provide input signals to move the car and change the wheel’s radius.
To begin with we made a test setup of a wooden plank which resembled an off-road track requiring a higher ground clearance. In this scenario, we changed the wheel radius to maximum position thus, increasing the robot’s ground clearance. As the wheel radius was increased, the robot easily moved past the obstacle.
Further, our first test setup was followed by our another test setup. Our final test setup was a tunnel that we created using a transparent acrylic board and two diagonal columns. This prop looked like a tight tunnel that needed a lower ground clearance to pass through. As the robot passed the off-road track, it’s wheels were in its maximum position thus it could not pass through the tunnel as robot’s height was elevated. At this instance we changed the wheels radius back to minimum which decreased the robot’s height and the robot returned back to its compact size. Due to the compact size the robot passed through the tunnel without any issue.
Videos below, captured during demonstration, will show case the the capability of our mini robot car Videos will also help to visualize the impact this design can make when modeled in a larger scale or designed for a real world scenarios.
