Classroom Technology Rounds Items to Check

INTRODUCTION

This page addresses the instructions for checking if the Classroom AV technology is in a ready state classes. These steps include images of what the system SHOULD like when visual inspection is occurring. You will fill out the Troubleshooting Checklist Matrix for Classroom Technology Problems.

COMPUTER TURNED ON?

Look for a small bright white light on the right side of the computer.

If no light, press the black power button.

If computer fails to power on, report to Help Desk.

MOUSE LIGHT ON?

Look for a red LED on the bottom of the mouse.

Good: Red Light

Bad: No Light

If no light, report to Help Desk (HOT ITEM).

LCD MONITOR LIGHT ON?

Look for an Amber (Standby) or Blue (On) LED on the bottom right of the Monitor.

Bad: No Light

If no light, push power button (the light is the button) on bottom right.

If monitor fails to turn on, re-seat power cord on rear of monitor.

If monitor fails to turn on, report to Helpdesk.

TOUCHPANEL ON?

Touch the Touch Panel with you finger to wake it up.

Confirm that it is on the Home Screen and ready for a teacher to start class.

Good: Touchpanel ready at Home Screen

Bad: Projector is off, but touchpanel thinks the

system is still on from yesterday.

 

If the screen is blank or in "bad" state, press the reset button on the back of the Touch Panel.

If touchpanel fails to turn on, report to Helpdesk (HOT ITEM).

ROOM SCHEDULER WORKING & UP TO DATE?

Wake room scheduler(s) outside the room by touching or waving your hand in front of it.

Confirm room scheduler is on today's date and sees upcoming events (available for the next X hours)..

 

Good: Scheduler knows today's date and

that an event is forthcoming in 2 hours.

If no lights or if scheduler doesn't know the date/calendar, report to Help Desk.

MICROPHONES & BATTERIES READY?

In rooms with mics, please confirm that the microphones are in the labeled microphone drawer.

New Batteries have a black cap over the terminals.

Stock new 9v Batteries in drawer. Provide 1 per mic.

Remove uncapped/used batteries and return to helpdesk for testing/recycling.

Report missing mics to Help Desk.

Return used batteries to Help Desk.

Pick up new batteries from Help Desk as needed.

LAPTOP CABLES READY?

Look at the audio, HDMI, and VGA cables on the teaching console.

Confirm that the 3 cables are present and are in good shape.

In particular, look for:

  • Bent Pins
  • Loose Connectors
  • Broken Cables
  • Cables placed in an inaccessible manner (ex: plugged into LCD monitor or stuffed in a desk hole)
 

 

 

If any cables are missing or defective report to Help Desk.

ALARM PANELS ARMED?

All alarms in hallways should be armed at all times.

Look for a red "Armed" LED on the left of the panel.


Good: Armed Red

Bad: Not Armed

If no red light, re-arm the alarm or report to Help Desk.

ARE HALLWAY TVs ON?

Verify the hallway TVs are on, running in Full Screen mode, and properly changing slides every few seconds.

If not working properly, report to Help Desk.
