Roles and Workflow

Roles

The two primary roles with regard to website maintenance include content owners and content contributors.

Only LBJ School members who have received training on the Drupal content management system (CMS) will be granted access to make updates to the core site.

Editors (Content Contributors and Content Owners)

Two web content roles will fall under the term “editor”: contributors and owners. Editors—both contributors and owners—will have standard page editing privileges on the pages they oversee or have been assigned.

Most content updates will be made by content contributors—responsible staff members in their areas who will have access to Drupal, the content management system (CMS). Content owners are subject matter experts—leadership of functional areas who retain responsibility for ensuring all content remains correct and up-to-date.

What Editors Can Do

Though some aspects of page editing are limited for contributors, a large portion of Drupal updates can be handled by designated Drupal contributors.

On their individual program’s pages, contributors can:

  • Edit existing content in the main body and right sidebars
  • Replace photos and videos to the main body

Administrators

Administrators of the Drupal core site are responsible for quality control, from proofreading to style and messaging, to the more technical aspects of the web.

What Administrators Can Do

As part of quality control and retaining a holistic view of the core LBJ site, administrators are responsible for:

  • Reviewing and publishing pages after contributors have submitted changes
  • Create new pages in the CMS
  • Edit the primary navigation
  • Change information in the site’s header and footer
  • Curate news and events for display on site pages
