Peer Review Procedures

Peer Review Procedures

Teaching Assessments, Reflective Observation and CNS Expert Teaching Assessments (CETA)

Faculty are responsible for familiarizing themselves with CNS and Provost requirements for teaching assessments, as this is a requirement for reviews and promotion and tenure: https://cns.utexas.edu/faculty-staff/faculty-affairs/faculty-evaluations/teaching-assessment-templates

In HDFS we have a “peer evaluation committee” in which members rotate each year. For 25-26, the department reviewers are below:

25-26 Peer Reviewers

Assistant Professor

Francheska Alers Rojas

Associate Professor

Marci Gleason

When a faculty member is due for an assessment, they should:

Arrange their assessment with one of the members on the peer committee.
Ensure that the correct form (see “assessment templates” at the provided link above) and necessary signatures are acquired and provide the form to Jolie Flink to ensure this is recorded in departmental records.
Upload your form here and use the following naming convention:

for Teaching Assessments:
Last Name_Teaching Assessment_Conducted by Last Name of Reviewer_Date
e.g. Livas Stein_Teaching Assessment_Conducted by Gershoff_2025.09.01

for Reflective Observations:
Last Name_Reflective Observation_Year
e.g. Livas Stein_Reflective Observation_2025

Note that:

  • the CNS Expert Teaching Assessments will be arranged on the faculty member’s behalf, as this is arranged with a faculty member outside of the department by CNS. These evaluations are sometimes called “external evaluations.”

  • all faculty must conduct a Reflective Observation for any given review period; more information, including the form, is at the provided link.
