Water Filters
Written by NTS from email 5/23/2016.
Water filters need to be changed periodically.
During maintenance when the filter is a grayish-brown is about right. Dark brown is too long.
SDS looked up the filters and they have a recommended lifetime of up to 6 months, so they should be changed every maintenance unless they look quite new/white.

Changing Filters
It's a relatively straightforward procedure, but there are some hints to make it go as smoothly as possible. One risk of the procedure is getting wet, and we want to mitigate that.
Steps
Turn off proper supply and return, double check they are the correct ones before closing.
Bravo source water has valves on the wall. Bravo source flange has valves in lab center at ceiling that are already closed for maintenance.
Cover any things as needed, such as electronics nearby.
Put trashcan below water filter to mitigate leaks.
Put ladder to side of filter if able, we want to avoid having a student right underneath the filter.
Support the top of the filter unit (white plastic top) and use the white filter wrench tool to loosen the filter. Some water may leak out.
Slowly unscrew filter unit by hand and keep it level.
Water will still be in the unit, the slower and more level you are, the less that will spill.
Take filter unit off carefully.
Throw away old filter.
If water is not OK (SF):
Dump water into SF (or proper) carboy using the proper funnel and proceed.
If water is OK (sources), keep water in housing.
Put in new filter, it will float.
Filter will self-align, but you can help it onto its fitting.
Reattach filter unit and screw in.
Use white tool to tighten filter unit, while supporting white unit top.
Turn on source return and supply.
Do NOT turn on SF return and supply, we are still doing maintenance.
Cleanup/wipe down/dry filter unit and ladder.
Move ladder
Clean up/wipe down/dry area including:
tools and equipment nearby
trashcan edges, sides, and bottom
floor
yourself, and get a new suit if wet, or at least new booties if wet/stepped in water
Monitor for leaks and such.
