Create Job Requisition in Workday

Job requisitions are required for all new faculty hires, and must be submitted and approved in order to submit the PAR.

For tenure-track faculty members, job requisitions should be created in the Department Chair's PM supervisory organization.

Locate Supervisory Organization

  • In the Workday search field, enter:  AU: Neuroscience

  • Select:  NEUR - Neuroscience, Department of
    • and click on Related Actions (...)
  • Select the applicable PM supervisory organization link
    • and click on on Related Actions (...)
    • Note:  the applicable PM sup org is: 
      • NEUR (PM) Department of Neuroscience (Robert Messing (rom326))
  • Select Job Change > Create Job Requisition.
    • Result: the Create Job Requisition page appears.

Create Job Requisition

  • In the Copy Details from Existing Requisition field, enter:
    • R_00021129 Assistant Professor

  • Select Create New Position
  • Click OK
    • Result:  the Recruiting Information page appears

Add Recruiting Information

  • Number of Openings:  1
  • Reason: Create Job Requisition-Academic > Academic-New Position
  • Recruiting Instruction: Posting Not Required (Academic)
  • Recruiting Start Date:  Today's date
  • Target Hire Date:  09/01/24
  • Note: Use current date for both Recruiting Start Date and Target Hire Date to have maximum flexibility in hiring.  If retro, use earlier dates.

  • Click Next.
    • Result:  the Job page appears

Define Job Details

Note:  For Faculty positions / jobs, the Justification, Job Description Summary, and Job Description fields are optional and may be used at the discretion of the initiator.

  • Job Posting Title:  Assistant Professor
  • Justification:  leave blank
  • Job Profile:  0030
  • Job Description Summary:  leave blank
  • Job Description:  leave blank
  • Worker Sub-Type:   Regular Benefits Eligible (Expected to Continue)

Important: All faculty positions will have open ended jobs. Select either Regular Benefits Eligible (Expected to Continue) or Regular Non-Benefits Eligible (Expected to Continue) even if Professinal Track (PT) with a fixed contract type.

  • Time Type:  Full Time
  • Primary Location:  UT Main Campus

Note: The Primary Job Posting Location defaults to Primary Location.

  • Scheduled Weekly Hours:  40
  • Click Next.
    • Result: The Qualification page appears. Review the instructions on the Qualifications page.

Organizational Assignments

  • In the Other section, enter the Funded By account(s) that will fund the job
    • FB1917742001
  • Confirm that the Incidental Account that fund background checks, ID cards, etc. is correct.
    • INCD2017748050
  • Click Next.
    • Result:  the Attachments page appears

Attach Documents

Note: Attachments for faculty are optional. CSUs should determine their internal requirements.

To add attachments, follow the steps below. Otherwise, go to the next step.

  • Click Add under the Documents section.
  • Click Attach to attach documents to the job requisition.
  • Click Next.
    • Result:  the Compensation page appears.

Delete Compensation

  • Click Delete in the Salary section.

Note: This Salary section should be removed as the salary amount will come from the PAR integration (salary section already removed).

  • Click Next.
    • Result:  the Create Job Requisition summary page appears

Review Job Requisition

Review information for accuracy.

Note: Click Edit within the appropriate sections to make changes, if needed.

Add Default Compensation

For the new position created in PM Organizations, you will receive the Request Default Compensation task. The Request Default Compensation task establishes the salary baseline for the position. The amount here may vary by CSU, for example, the average paid across the CSU for that job profile. Follow these steps to complete this task:

  • Open Request Default Compensation task.
  • Navigate to Salary section.
  • Enter the dollar amount in the Amount field:  
    • Note: this is the unpublished max.
    • Salary range for 2024-25:  $103,000 - $105,000.
  • Click Approve
    • Result: The Job Requisition is routed for approval. Make note of the job requisition number displayed. After approval, the job requisition number can be found on the Staffing tab of the supervisory organization where you are hiring.
