Lingering thoughts from last month's meetingAll
  • Michael - Wasn't able to attend the meeting last month, but has reviewed the meeting notes. Really interested about the workshop idea. Would love to include it in the fall schedule for Data and Donuts
  • DH vs Data and Donuts series — Allyssa and Michael coordinate so schedules don't overlap. Data and Donuts is more flexible in scope since it is based on tools, however they use humanities data for the workshops as well, so it ends up being a little bit overlapping on their topics
  • Data and Donuts
    • A recent survey of past attendees has shown that there is a lot of interest in keeping it virtual, so it will probably stay like that
    • Audience? Mostly grad students, also some undergrads. After transitioning to virtual, they are seeing more members of the general public (no UT affiliation).
    • Advertising on TDL networks
    • Fall schedule - early September and late October. Friday's at noon. 1 hour + Q&A
  • Lingering thoughts about facilitating a workshop?
    • Katie - interesting idea, but what would that look like. How to scope it? Who would be involved?
    • Elliot - A potential way to scope it is to leverage what has already been done in this group. Make resources we have already developed available to campus
    • Katie - this also brings the idea of the edit-a-thon type of workshop. Would like to know also what people who comes to these meetings and haven't had much chance to create linked data would like to do
    • Michael - educational component – would like to include also why they should be interested in developing linked data skills
    • Paloma - HRC has developed training documentation for local project that can also be leveraged. Will share with the group.
Planning for next stepsAll
  • Scope?
    • Trying to not over commit
    • openRefine + wikidata
    • what is the value of having data on wikidata
  • Goals?
    • Michael - D&D workshops might respond to different goals
      • satisfy a demand on campus
      • introducing people to a  new tool
      • A linked data oriented workshop would falls on the second category. Bringing LD to people's attention. Raise the profile of LD on campus. Foster community around LD in campus. Touch also on the variety of ways in which people from different disciplines might leverage linked data work
    • Elliot - This is probably also true about the libraries
  • Paloma - Start with UT libraries and repositories maybe sometime in the Summer (August?). We might feel more comfortable with an audience that is interested in the same use for linked data that we are. This can be a test round before a D&D or DH workshop in the Fall
Next monthAll
  • What about having a working session during our April meeting to define the structure of a wikidata workshop for the library?
    • Yes! Let's do it
