Hiring Research Faculty to Teach
Per Provost’s Office guidance on academic and funding expectations for research faculty when teaching, research faculty serving as Instructor of Record for an organized course cannot be compensated for that course via Instructional Overload due to guidelines on research effort. Instead, the costing on their research faculty position should be adjusted in Workday to reflect the appropriate instructional effort. See EVPP: Hiring Research Faculty > About Research Faculty Titles > Academic and Funding Expectations.
Example: If a 40 SWH Research Professor teaches one spring course (typically equal to 10 SWH per course), their costing for the period 1/1-5/15 should be updated to 75% grant + 25% department instructional.
