Annual Open Rank Postings - Professional Track Faculty
At the end of each summer, academic departments should post at least one open rank professional-track teaching position on Interfolio to keep open throughout the academic year. Some departments may choose to post one position per program area. In the event of an unexpected, temporary instructor vacancy for scheduled courses, departments can hire from this applicant pool throughout the year as needed. Title, FTE, and compensation are determined at the time of hire according to teaching load, department need, and qualifications of successful applicants.
Departments should close out each open rank posting at the end of the academic year and communicate with all unsuccessful applicants. It is recommended to close the current position just prior to publishing and opening applications for the new academic year’s posting in order to always have a position available and maintain a consistent, current applicant pool. Postings in Interfolio should be based on the most current template shared by COE Faculty Affairs and made available on Box.
New professional-track faculty are typically offered a Short Term (one semester or one academic year in duration) contract for their first six semesters in rank at UT Austin. Longer initial contract lengths require the prior approval of the Senior Associate Dean. See Contracts - COE Guidelines > Typical contract type by title series and rank.
