The process for importing a digital certificate into a Android OS compatible device is fairly automatic.  Please follow the simple steps below to install the certificate and verify that it was successfully installed.

Before installing your digital certificate on your Android device, please consult with the ISO page

Information Security Office
and ensure your device has been secured. 

After installing a your digital certificate on your device, anyone with physical access to your device will have the ability to decrypt and view sensitive information within email or other applications on the device.  PLEASE ENSURE that you have protected/hardened as it very important to keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.

  1. Transfer the certificate to your Android device, the best way to do this is to download it from

  2. The default behavior is the device will initiate installation of the P12 file.   The following confirmation box will appear, confirm all the information is correct and tap OK.

     

  3. In the password box, enter the password from the same 

    Stache
    entry that the certificate was downloaded from.

  4. Verify that the certificate was properly installed, follow these steps

    1. Go to Settings and tap on Security.

       

    2. Scroll down to Credential Storage.

       

    3. Tap on Trusted Credentials and then tap on the "User" tab.

       

    4. If you see "The University of Texas at Austin" in the list, that confirms that the certificate was successfully installed.

Post-Installation Notes

  • Your Android device may occasionally show a push notifications stating “Network may be monitored”, this is expected. Dismissing the notification will remove the warning, however it will reappear when the device is rebooted. 

  • Android device manufacturers will often implement their own mail application, each client will have different settings for encrypting or signing emails. Please consult with your device manufacturer’s support pages to configure email signing and encryption.
