Acid Hood Designation
Rico will likely only give you access to the III-V hood after certification for the acid benches (E02). If you need to access a different hood contact Rico and be explicit about what you will be etching.
Do not transfer equipment between the acid benches.
C14 and C16
- "red" hoods. Each type has a color code
- Doped and undoped acid hoods respectively
- C14 is the backup to C16
- Used for cleaning samples larger than 4 inches in diameter
- Also used to clean samples before using the furnaces
H14 and H15
- "yellow" hoods
- Used for etching samples with photoresist and other mask polymers.
- Also can be used for the PBN crucible etches done by the LASE group.
F6, G12, and G14
- "brown" hoods
- Used for etching metals
- When etching metals (Au, Cr, etc.) only ever use a selective etch
- Do not use the lab containers and tools in the hood when doing these metal etches (metal waste produces a lot of contamination), bring your own.
- Do not aspirate metal etchants once you are done with them (due to metal waste). You must pour these into waste containers and label them with the etchant and metal. Do not mix etchants.
- Etches done after the selective metal etchant is used (piranah, HF, etc.) can be performed with lab containers and tools.
