Backing up Eurotherm Settings

Backing up Eurotherm Settings

This page details how to back up the settings (PIDs, ramp rates, temperature limits, etc.) of known good Eurotherms and reupload them to new Eurotherms. This requires a Eurotherm dsub comms to USB cable (typically kept in the white cabinet with the Leybold laptop) and a laptop with the Eurotherm iTools software: https://www.eurotherm.com/products/power-control/power-control-software/eurotherm-itools/

  1. Ensure that the Eurotherm you intend to backup or reupload settings to is in Manual at 0% power. Using iTools to access a Eurotherm will take it in and out of Config mode, which will set the power to 0. If the Eurotherm is powering a cell, this will repeatedly turn the filament on and off, potentially damaging it.

  2. Remove the rainbow ribbon cable from the Eurotherm on the back of the server rack. This will reveal a DSUB connector. Note that this will prevent the Eurotherm from communicating with Amber.

  3. Connect the USB end of the iTools cable to your laptop and the dsub comms end into the back of the Eurotherm.

  4. Open the iTools Wizard on your laptop and select "Connect via CPI clip or IR cable."

  5. The software should detect the Eurotherm at whatever comport it is connected to.

  6. Next it will prompt you to launch a new iTools session for the Eurotherm. Launch the new session.

  7. From the new iTools session window, "Save" allows you to save a "Clone" of the Eurotherm's settings to your computer. "Load" allows you to apply the settings of a "Clone" file to the connected Eurotherm.

  8. Perform the desired operation and allow it to complete. Make sure you say yes to using custom linearization data if prompted. Otherwise the Eurotherm may read the thermocouple incorrectly. The Eurotherm will enter and exit Config mode during this process.

  9. When finished, close the iTools software and disconnect the cable.

  10. Reconnect the rainbow ribbon cable to the Eurotherm and ensure that Amber is reading it properly.
