Pulling Shutter Wheel

This page describes how to remove the shutter wheel for both Echo and Bravo

Preparation

  • Cool down sources or bring to idle?

    • need older student to finish

  • Check that the shutters are in manual operation and closed

  • Remove Pyrometer

    • Remove set screw

    • Pull entire unit off machine

    • Disconnect the pyrometer's power cord and set it somewhere safe to avoid damage to its lens

  • Remove shutter rods (assuming shutters are taped)

  • Disconnect pneumatic power cords

    • x2 bottom right

    • x1 on top

  • Loosen set screws for connecting shutter rod to chamber (1/8" Allen)

    • 1 set screw for each side and bottom. 2 set screws for top

Pulling the wheel

  • Remove shutter wheel

    • 2 people pull

    • 1 person to support and make sure nothing gets caught

  • Turn off the 3 heated view ports (i.e. slowly ramp to zero)

    • The 2 large blue/white side view port controllers are ramped manually at a rate of 50 degC/15 min. Keep (slowly) ramping these for the rest of this procedure

    • The 1 small control box for the backside viewport ramps at an automatic rate -- go ahead and ramp it all the way to zero

  • Disconnect source material water supplies and returns

    • As (Arsenic)

    • HT Bi (high-temperature bismuth)

    • DD

    • Groups IIIs
