Replacing the Echo B Shutter in a Glovebag Notes
Written by NTS from notes taken in January 2017, written March 29, 2017
This is a serious procedure for which we must thoroughly plan and prepare.
This procedure was attempted for the first time, so we learned as we went.
Notes
It took multiple attempts because we kept dropping the shutter collar when trying to put it on the shutter rod in the pocket (user in SF glovebag) with tweezers.
Shutter collar is slippery.
Shutter collar needs UC pliers: short for the RHEED bag, long for the SF bag.
Procedure needs two glovebags
Procedure needs large pieces of UC foil in case the collar drops.
Procedure needs extra UC collars.
Procedure works because of 3" SF and cryshroud (shutter can go in and out of pocket).

Procedure
Open up the RHEED port and shutter bellows port.
The new shutter is already in the pocket from a failed collar attempt.
Put down UC foil in both bags, but especially a ton in the RHEED bag (up the glovebag walls).
SF glovebag P1 uses UC pliers to extend out shutter so RHEED glovebag P1 can grab it and remove it from the GC.
RHEED people use pliers to put on new collar and tighten it a bit. Test that it won't fall off.
Pass shutter through RHEED port back up to pocket, and SF P1 grabs it with long UC pliers (after proper knife edge wiping).
SF P1 loosens the collar slightly and attaches the bellows with gasket (after proper knife edge wiping).
Double check SF P1 bellows to rod attachment before tightening collar.
Install.
Better Procedure Ideas
Do the above but don't screw up.
Put a new or certified pre-owned UC collar on the new shutter before venting the system.
When removing the old shutter, be careful with collar and send it out with the old shutter to the RHEED P1 for reuse or reclaim.
Do the main collar work (as much as possible) in the RHEED glovebag.
