Responsibilities of All Committee Members

  • Provide input regarding the criteria and process for assigning space in the department

  • If renovations are occurring, provide input/ideas regarding faculty needs and potential space improvements

  • Participate in space committee meetings (approximately 2-4 per year)

Additional Responsibilities of the Space Committee Chair

  • Assigning/managing faculty space each year

  • Prior to the start of each academic year, work with senior admin to survey faculty for space needs.

  • Work with senior admin to organize all requests and distribute to the members of the committee and department chair.

  • Work with senior admin to schedule and facilitate a meeting with the committee, department chair, and department senior administrative associate to discuss faculty requests and make decisions regarding space assignments.

  • Following the meeting, notify all faculty of their space assignments for each academic year.

  • Coordinate with the department senior administrative associate to ensure faculty are able to access their assigned space (e.g., serve as a backup manager of keypad codes, etc.)

  • Work closely with the department chair, department senior administrative associate, and the space committee throughout the year to troubleshoot any problems that may arise regarding space assignments and make new space assignments should last minute space needs crop up “off-cycle”.

  • Assisting with space renovations (when applicable)

    • Create and distribute surveys regarding faculty space needs and ideas for improvements

    • Work closely with the department chair and the department senior administrative associate to serve as a liaison between the faculty and the CNS architectural/renovations team to convey space needs

Along with the department chair and department senior administrative associate, continually provide feedback to the CNS architectural/renovations team regarding blueprints and furniture purchases.

Submit to Space Chair

Outside of the annual survey that is sent by the senior admin, use the linked space request form for ad hoc requests. On this form, faculty will be required to indicate (a) the number of research rooms requested, (b) the desired beginning and end date for each room, (c) the purpose/function for each space (e.g., to collect observational data, to conduct family interviews, space for coding data, etc.), (d) approximately how many days per week and the times of day the space is needed (e.g., morning, afternoon, evening, weekends, weekdays), and (e) whether the project is grant funded.
