Background/Summary

This project focuses on the design, analysis, fabrication, and testing of a linkage mechanism for vertical and tilting motion of an adjustable IPad stand. The design builds upon concepts from initial brainstorming, prototyping, and kinematic analysis to study motion and force transmission.

The final mechanism converts rotary input motion into vertical motion to achieve a stable lifting system. This utilizes 4 sets of interconnected linkages driven by a motor and gear system. Through iterative prototyping and physical testing, the project achieves smooth motion that is repeatable.

Problem Statement

Students, professionals, and the common person commonly suffer with the uncomfortable height of an IPad or laptop while working on a desk. Our project aims to tackle the issue of neck and back pain that arises from the common desk positions by adjusting the height and angle of a workspace.
