08.5 - Conclusion

Overall, our project was a success in reinforcing our understanding of our dynamics and mechanism theory learned throughout the semester. As for tips for future groups, we would say to keep things simple and that adding complexity doesn’t inherently make a design superior or better in application.

To take our design to the next level, we would first change the main enclosure box from 1/8” laser-cut wood to 1/4”, or perhaps make the box 100% acrylic, as the wood proved to be easily warped and bendable making the horse’s motion inconsistent and require additional bracing.

Additionally, we would opt for 2 motors on each rack, one at the front and back of the rack gear, in order to have automated racing and return functions for the horse.

We would like to acknowledge and give thanks to the staff and facilities at TIW, as the ability to rapidly prototype and ask questions throughout the entire project process was invaluable.
