This page provides step-by-step instructions for installing and signing in to CrashPlan on both macOS and Windows computers. Follow these instructions to ensure your device is properly backed up and protected.

Process Instructions


Install CrashPlan macOS

  1. Check if CrashPlan is installed.

    • Open "Applications."

    • Search for "CrashPlan."

    • If CrashPlan is installed, proceed to Step 4; otherwise, proceed to Step 2.

  2. If CrashPlan is not installed, install it.

    • Search applications for "Self Service+."

    • Search for "CrashPlan."

    • Click "Install."

  3. Open CrashPlan from Applications.

  4. Sign in to CrashPlan.

    • For sign in enter yourEID@eid.utex.edu when prompted.

    • Complete the single sign-on process.

  5. If prompted for server address, please enter console.us2.crashplan.com.

  6. If prompted, select "New Device" if this is your first time signing in on this device.

  7. Manage Files

    • Click Manage Files

    • Click the Users Folder

    • Make sure only your EID is checked, if any other profiles are checked, uncheck them

    • Click I Understand and press Delete

  8. Allow CrashPlan to begin the initial backup.

    • (Optional) Start backup manually by pressing "Run Backup Now" or allow CrashPlan to back up automatically.

    • The first backup may take several hours.

    • Leave your computer powered on. If you are using a laptop, keep it open, plugged into power, and connected to Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

    • You may leave the device on overnight to complete the backup.


Install CrashPlan Windows

  1. Check if CrashPlan is installed.

    • Use the Windows search tool to search for "CrashPlan."

    • If CrashPlan is installed, proceed to Step 4; otherwise, proceed to Step 2.

  2. If CrashPlan is not installed, install it.

    • Use Windows search tool to search for "Software Center."

    • Go to "Applications" and search for "CrashPlan." Click on CrashPlan, press install on the CrashPlan Page.

  3. Open CrashPlan from the Start menu or desktop.

  4. Sign in to CrashPlan.

    • For sign in enter yourEID@eid.utexas.edu when prompted.
