Discussion Items

ItemNotes
General observations on testing thus far
  • We've all familiarized ourselves with the transfer and ingest process
  • We're still curious to see how piping DIPS to AtoM or other destinations will work
  • Initial large file tests show little affect on performance, but Ladd will test more
  • Seems helpful for recording the bifurcation of IPs - Access tab in archivematica shows where DIPS went. Something of a breadcrumb trail for future reference.
AtoM observations/questions
  • Ladd discovered script for connecting archivematica to AtoM didn't exist on the server, and that instructions are not up to date w/ latest versions of the software. He's determined rsync is doing the file transfer & SWORD is doing the data mapping - the point of failure is still unknown, and he needs more time to figure it out.
  • Jessica reviewed the AtoM interface, with an emphasis on the ease of use compared to manual EAD markup of finding aids
  • Jessica wants to know if object images displayed in AtoM finding aids can come from references to files stored elsewhere rather than extraneous copies stored in AtoM.
  • Jessica brought up the question of AtoM's schema compliance capabilities
  • Could be a big timesaver administratively in terms of generating EAD encoded finding aids (assuming most folks are still marking those up by hand)
  • National usage numbers?
  • Possibility of sending DIPs and IPs to Islandora
File ID tools
  • Benn looked more closely at these, and sees that FIDO is running now after some configuration change.
  • Disk images should be recognized now.
  • Tests with metadata.csv file and jp2 files created with Photoshop resulted in JHOVE issues with jp2s; these flags are consistent w/ existing issues in Benn's current workflows; archivematica doesn't seem to be a big improvement/timesaver in this regard
other archivematica issues
  • Vandy encountered problem with bag validation
Next steps
  • Shifting focus of working group to archivematica+AtoM use cases to demo for other potential users on campus
  • More testing with disk images - normalization flags would be a big time saver

Action Items

  • Wendy finding archivematica volume threshold info Jennifer mentioned in previous meeting
  • Ladd (and others?) conducting large file tests
  • Jessica creating logins for other staff
  • Everyone delete completed transfers - housekeeping!
  • Jessica building out some structure in AtoM (importing bulk EAD, moving accession records and mapping to EAC, etc.)
  • Develop demos to present to other users before end of summer
