macOS Printer Installation on a UT device
IMPORTANT: LAITS does not provide support for personal devices. If you choose to install a UT printer on your personal computer, please be aware that we cannot offer troubleshooting assistance if printing fails or stops working.
Installing Printers on macOS
macOS computers managed by LAITS and enrolled in Jamf will automatically have their printers installed once-per-month when they check-in with Jamf.
Installation via Self Service+
Manually install departmental printers through the Self Service+ app, via the items available under Catalog > Printers, or via search.
Select the printer you wish to install by clicking the Install button and waiting until complete.
Where can I find Self Service+?
Navigate to the Applications Folder
Look for the UT Austin logo on your dock or in your Applications folder to find UT Self Service on your Mac.
UT Self Service should be listed alphabetically in the Applications folder on your Mac
You can open UT Self Service it by double-clicking the icon.
Potential Driver Issues - “Missing software”
If a Mac is using an outdated driver, it may prompt you regarding "missing software" or "driver updates".
Try manually removing the printer using UT Self Service+, then download and install the latest printer driver from the manufacturer's website, re-add the printer and try printing again.
If the issue continues, follow the next steps below:
Many driver packages provided by the manufacturer will not overwrite existing drivers on the Mac, so they must be manually deleted before installation.
To delete a printer driver:
Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners and remove the printer.
Open "Finder"
Press CMD+Shift+G or click "Go" > "Go to Folder" from the menu bar
Enter "/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/"
Locate and delete the driver that matches the printer make and model
Reinstall the latest driver from the manufacturer -provided package and re-add the desired printer.
