Preheating the Si Filament

Heating the Si filament from room temperature requires connecting the Ta wire in order to warm the Si filament and increase its conductivity. The Si filament is then idled around 450C

• Connect the preheat wire to the positive electrode contact using the red jumper cables (kept in the white cabinet by the fumehood)

• Ramp the power by 0.5% every 5 minutes to 9%. The current should remain below 6A. (See the SUSI turn on recipe in the echo maintenance folder)

• Once 9% is reached, wait 15-30 minutes for the SUSI to be >300C

• Remove the shorting cable and wait for the cell to turn on

  • Current will drop to 0.3A and then begin increasing

  • Temperature will drop about 70C before beginning to increase

• Idle the SUSI at 8.5%

  • Change OP.low to 8.5 on the eurotherm

• If the SUSI fails to turn on, repeat heating process to 10% and allow for the filament to heat for longer
