Wheel travel and MR
last edit 2/18: Choosing final shocks, shrinking rear to be something Air ILs carry at CC
1/20 revision: Moved inboard outboard more for frame accommodation, moved BC to CA plane, changed shock dims
1/16 revision:
decreased the dist. between contact patch and bore center of upright (axis center) to dec. scrub radius - aiming for .5 - 1in. Kentucky can get that without > 5deg KPI, so our only option was to decrease the unsprung thickness. → changes suspension stack geometry, so updated to change the shock travel amt we need for max bump to acc for stocking issues and replace it with something used more widespread.
decided to focus on obtaining prog coils on all wheels so make sure specs are available
options are get air shocks or get progressive coils: Cane Creek VALTs / Progressive /
find MR models are designed for
185mm x 55
210mm x 55
210mm x 57.5
Ohlins - TXC2Air 190mm x 45 https://www.ohlins.com/en-us/mountain-bike/rear-shocks/ttx22m-2-coil-tm-205x65-am
210 x 55
Cane Creeks https://www.canecreek.com/collections/shocks/products/kisuma-g2-coil?variant=42296393859151 - dont really carry 190 - only 185, 205
kitsuma coils - prob need to do trunnion - GRAVITY
DB kitsuma G1
doesnt come with coils though
Coil ILs - short travel - UPHILL
Fox
205 x 60
205 x 65
210 x 50, 55
Front - current 185 mm x 57 mm 185 x 55 210mm x 55
(2.16 in travel)
185 mm x 63.5→ 7.28in x 2.5
FINAL
MR: 2.5
wheel travel - bump: 3.07 droop: 2.34in
in general assume ab 5 in total wheel travel (exagerated) and then a 2-2.16 shock travel ~ 2.3 MR
update 3/11/2025 below from andrew (front only)
i checked by editing heave values in 24-DYN-REF
shock: 210x55mm
shock at max (1.5") droop: 203.87mm
shock at max (2.5") bump: 156.21mm
wheel travel droop (max decompression, shock = 210mm): -2.311”
wheel travel bump (max compression, shock = 155mm): 2.577”
Rear
210 mm x 57.5 → 8.26in x 2.25
extender + 2.9 in
FINAL
MR: 1.55
wheel travel - bump: 2.09 droop: 1.4in
in general assume ab 4 in total wheel travel (1.5 droop, 2.5 bump) and then a ~2.25 shock travel (higher bc longer shock) ~ 1.77 MR
