  • We are the translators of science to families and artists to children

  • It’s easy for people to discount the art component, but it is hard!

  • How do we communicate with families the value of what we are offering?

We got into different groups (by age group) to create lists of what children start the year being able to do and what they end the year being able to do.

  • What did we notice?

    • Identifying specific behaviors

    • End of year is easier to identify

    • Development over the course of 9 months is magical

    • Lots of variation

    • Kinder guidelines are not DAP for FM and SEL

    • Make the document with the table page less

    • Create evidence from initial family meeting

    • Liz’s goal is to show parents the “fall portfolio” with 5 pieces of evidence

    • Do we need observations, progress, and goals for each of the domain? Amy will check

    • Instead of goals, maybe opportunities for growth

Adults in the Classroom

  • Chat about adult expectations, responsibilities, and how we give adults opportunities for growth as well.

  • Plan to talk about practicum project guidelines during a Friday meeting

    • Ways to make their projects more visible

    • Deliverables that we can share within our program and has meaning and value for us

Teacher expectations

  • We can work on, as a group, a lab school manual that helps us define our expectations as educators so that we can feel like we are meeting expectations

  • We can spend time in Friday meetings talking about what are adults are working on (TAs, GAs, practicums)
