MFPS - Blackmagic Design Replay - Instant Replay Setup and Workflow

 

Mac Replay Laptop

The user name and password is on Stache called Replay Laptop

Once you log into the laptop

Make sure WiFi is off

The Replay Laptop will have 3 USB C cables to plug in

 

 

1. The Replay Cable USBC that connects to the Hyperdeck

  1. Plug in the USB C for the HUB

  2. Plug in the Network cable that will plug into the Replay/CG Rack

  3. Plug in the USBC cable for the Replay Editor

  1. Plug the other end of the cable connected to the laptop for the Replay Editor into the Blackmagic Design Replay Editor

There is an On/Off switch on the back of the Replay Editor

Connect the other end of the Ethernet Cable from the HUB to the front of the CG Case Rack

 

>Plug into the Port labeled REPLAY LAN

On the laptop make sure the Network is set as shown here:

 

Network should be set to a manual IP

>System Settings

>Network

>set the IP DHCP

 

Should show connected

Replay server

>Go>Connect to Server

Type in

smb://replay.local

 

Connect

 

 

Choose to connect as guest

Mount the REPLAY server

 

Click on it on the sidebar finder

Select so it highlights and then login as Guest

Will mount to desktop

Open Desktop Video Setup

Make sure Audio Input is set to Analog so you do not get digital audio feedback

On the laptop open

>Blackmagic HyperDeck>Blackmagic HyperDeck Setup

When Hyperdeck setup opens click on List View

Check the boxes to select

Cameras 1 – 3

 

Click the Record button at the bottom to set all to record

 

Note all cameras should have matching timecode

Double check you are recording on DVR 1,2 and 3 sometimes they come up in different orders

Open Davinci Resolve

Once project is open go to

>Davinci Resolve >Preferences

>Video and Audio I/O

Make sure both

Capture device and Monitor device are set to

UltraStudio 4K Mini

Open REPLAY TEST project that is already created or you can download from the link here

When the project opens DELETE ANY MEDIA LOADED IN THE PROJECT WE ARE GOING TO BRING NEW MEDIA IN FROM THE CURRENT PROJECT

 

The Replay stinger might be offline but is saved to the documents folder on the laptop

The file is called STINGER

If the STINGER is offline

Right Click it and choose

>Relink Selected Clips

Navigate to the Documents folder where the stinger is located and click Open and it’ll link

Have to be in the CUT Tool in Resolve

  • Turn on Replay Controls

Go to the replay options dropdown above the viewer

>Choose Auto Stinger On

Drag the REPLAY stinger down to

 

>Auto Stinger Start

This shows the Stinger loaded

 

  • Click to select your active stinger, which will be highlighted in green to show it is ready to go on air.

  • Press Run during a replay to automatically trigger the stinger and transition to your replay feed. Press Dump to run the stinger again and exit

Set the interface to be in “Timeline” mode

To see the cameras click on

>Replay Controls

Then click on the left arrow icon to see Input View

Click on the Import Media Folder button

Click on

>REPLAY>REPLAY folder

>Click on Open

When files come in make sure there is a red record button in all the boxes.

 

In this example all 3 cameras are showing the red record icon in the upper left of the monitor

Next make sure we are in REPLAY and Input View

You can also click Input View on the BMC controller button

When in input view make sure the timecode is matching the timecode displayed in the HyperDeck Studio application

Open HyperDeck Studio and check for matching timecode

Make sure Live Speed button is lit RED

It is the button at the top of the slider to control how fast the replay

will play back

Clear the Set POI button by double tapping it so it’s not illuminated RED

>Click Set POI to set a replay mark to play back a segment

Here are the steps in order

  1. Click on Input View

  2. Set POI

  3. Click Run

  4. You do not have to choose a preroll you can just go into slo motion live controlling the speed of the slo motion with the “Live Mode or View” slider control. - OR -

  5. Choose the seconds of how far back you want to preroll before your chosen POI and then

  6. Choose a Camera and the system will go back to the POI point minus the “PreRoll” chose (2 sec 5 sec etc.) and then start the replay of that chosen camera - OR-

  7. When POI is set it puts the system in preparation mode where you can then use the Resolve edit window and can scroll the clip loaded in the source side window and press In and Out and Append to put on resolve timeline to setup a highlight reel then when the timeline is ready place the timeline indicatior at the head of the timeline and click RUN to run the timeline and it’ll dump out automatically when the timeline is played.

  8. Set the slider on how slow the replay plays back

  9. Click Dump to exit REPLAY

  10. Clear the POI (double click)

  11. Click back on Input View to get back to live mode

Set POI

Press RUN key

The stinger will play and then replay will start

Choose how many seconds back you want to cue the pre-roll

Choose what camera you want to play back

You will see the Replay on the monitor controlled by the live speed fader of how slow you want it go play

 

You can switch cameras and they will roll back to the beginning of the replay section and you can choose different cameras.

Click Dump to exit out of that REPLAY point to set another POI

Can also click on DUMP on the keyboard

Then the stinger will play again when Replay is over

Click on Clear the SET POI but clicking on it twice

Go back to Input View to start a new REPLAY

When finished

Hit stop on the Hyperdecks to stop recording

Quit the Hyperdeck setup

Remove the all the clips that recorded before saving

Select all the clips and right click and choose to Remove Selected Clips

>Quit Resolve

Next - Delete all the files from the REPLAY folder on the Cloud Store Mini that were recorded

Delete these files

 

Finished

Log out of the computer and now pack the gear back in the Cases
