MFPS - Rack 100 - Camera Power Supply

This page contains documentation on PS-101 Camera Power Supply in Rack 100 of the MFPS Moody Field Production System. PS-101 contains (3) Meanwell NSP-150-15 AC>DC power supplies which provide DC power to cameras 1, 2, & 3 via BSP-101R & BSP-102R using 4-pin XLR connections. These power supplies each provide up to 150w at 15-19v DC power to the field production cameras. The voltage can be adjusted on the power supply to make up for voltage drop on long camera snakes.

 

PS-101 Layout

PS-101 is a pull-out rack drawer. Push the thumb latch down and pull the drawer towards you to open.

Are the cameras not powering on? Check the Mains fuse!

If ALL THREE cameras are not powering on, check in PS-101 drawer and verify the following:

  • The fans in the drawer are running

  • The green light on each camera’s power supply unit is illuminated.

If all fans are not running, the camera’s power supply’s green light is not illuminated, and all cameras have no power, confirm the rack has power and then check PS-101 Mains Fuse.

 

Checking Mains Fuse

Unplug Rack 100 and PS-101. Confirm PS-101 fans are not running.

 

 

 

From the back of Rack 100 locate PS-101 at the bottom of the rack.

Locate the Main Fuse from the back of the rack

Use a flat-blade screwdriver to remove mains fuse at rear of PS-101. Gently press in and rotate 1/4 turn counter-clockwise. Grasp the black fuse holder and pull toward you.

Now that the fuse has been removed from the rack, remove the fuse from the fuse holder. Hold the black end of the fuse holder and gently pull the fuse from the clips holding in.

Now it’s time to test the fuse.

Using the multimeter from Workbox 1, plug the black lead into the COM port and the red lead into the VΩmA port.

Turn the dial to the continuity mode, which looks like a sound wave or speaker icon.

Place the fuse on a dry, non-metal, insulated surface.

 

Touch one probe to one metal end of the fuse, and touch the other probe to the opposite end. The direction of the probes does not matter.

Good fuse: The multimeter beeps and the screen shows a number close to zero (low resistance).

Blown fuse: The meter makes no sound, and the screen reads OL (Open Line).

If fuse is good, reinstall the this fuse.

If fuse is blown, replace the fuse with the correct value fuse. Refer fuse values table below.

If PS-101 still does not have power after replacing the fuse or if the fuse blows repeatedly, notify technical staff.

Is a single camera not powering on? Check Camera Fuses.

Testing 12v Camera Fuses

If only a single camera does not have power, check the appropriate 12v camera fuse.

Confirm PS-101 has fans running and each power supply has a green indicator light. This confirms the rack has power and the mains fuse is good.

 

Confirm each camera power supply has a green light ON.

If a power supply’s green ON indicator light is NOT illuminated and the camera has no power, check the fuse for the camera.

 

 

 

 

Using the multimeter from Workbox 1, plug the black lead into the COM port and the red lead into the VΩmA port.

Turn the dial to the white DC V⎓ mode in the 20v range.

Measure the output of the power supply screw terminals.

Touch the black probe to the Vo- screw and the red probe to the Vo+ screw.

The voltage should read around 14-20v.

Measure the voltage after the fuse. Touch the black probe to the screw on the terminal with the black wires and the red probe to the rear screw of the fuse terminal block (red wires).

If there is no voltage measured, the fuse is likely blown.

 

It’s now time to check the fuse and replace if needed.

Turn PS-101 off by removing the power plug at the rear of the rack or unplugging the entire rack.

 

 

 

 

Use a pair of needle-nose pliers from Workbox 1 to remove the fuse by pulling straight up.

Examine the fuse visually to see if it is blown.

 

Hold the fuse up to a light and visually verify the fuse is still intact.

You can also test the fuse with a volt meter.

Checking & Adjusting Camera Voltage

If a camera will not power on check the voltage going to this camera. Use the camera voltage testing box in Workbox 2 to confirm the amount of voltage going to this camera.

 

Before plugging in the power cable from the camera snake, use the voltage tester to test the voltage going to each camera.

The voltage tester can be found in Workbox 2.

Voltage Tester Connections

Plug the FEMALE end of the power cable (from voltage tester) to the 12v power input on the camera, and plug the MALE end of the voltage tester into the 12v power (FEMALE) power from from the camera snake.

 

 

 

 

 

Female end of voltage tester is plugged into the 12v power on the camera.

Plug in the Female end of the power cable from the camera snake into the Male end of the voltage tester.

Check the display on the voltage tester and ensure the voltage reads between 12v-18v.

 

If the voltage is too low it needs to be increased and if it is too high it needs to be lowered.

How to increase or decrease the voltage going to each camera

In the PS-101 Power Supply drawer in Rack 100 each camera’s power supply unit has a small white screw head used for adjusting the voltage. Use a Philips style screwdriver to increase or decrease the voltage going to each camera.

 

 

 

 

 

With one person at the camera monitoring the voltage tester and one person at Rack 100 adjusting the voltage, these two people can work together to get the correct voltage for each camera.

 

Voltage target is 12v-18v.
