Digital Cinema Package - How to Add Captions to An Existing DCP

Double check the name to make sure that you have it listed with the language of the subtitle.

Doublecheck the content parameters to make sure that the Short film is actually identified as a short

Feature is identified as a feature.

Theaters cannot play two features together, so if a short is intended to play before a feature, but this box says it's a feature, it cannot be added to the playlist.

Click on the Pencil to change the parameters

Then click on Generate Package

Then click generate the DCP. You will be creating a new DCP in this situation, in a new directory, not adding this to an existing DCP directory. I'm glossing over this section because it should be understood already if you have made DCPs. Sometimes you can use the exiting XML files without re-encoding the media, so give that a try, but if it fails, there is something about the media that Easy DCP didn't like and it will want to re-encode it.

Launch Easy DCP Player

To see on a TV enable HD-SDI output

In Easy DCP Player choose >Open>Open Package

Navigate to the newly created Folder containing the DCP files

Choose ASSETMAP

Choose open

The DCP will load. This might take a few minutes.

You can get info in the lower left corner displaying the process of the file loading.

Click Play Icon on the file to load it into the player

Then hit Play button on the player to play

DCP player window playing the DCP file

Drag and drop the Subtitle XML file on the left side of the software window to add it as an asset.

Look at the audio Waveforms to double check the file.

Go to Asset>Waveform Visualizer

Make sure that the waveforms look right.

Notice that Chanel 3 has all the dialog audio.

Generally That is the case.

You can watch the waveforms follow the image file when you play the file in Easy DCP.

Make sure the audio files appear correctly.

Go to View >Color Transforms>
should be
X'Y'Z > R'G'B' (Rec BT.709)

Play the entire DCP to check the quality of the image and sound. Make sure the tracks are correct and looks and sound good.

IF THE FILE IS GOOD THEY WILL NEED TO BE COPIED TO A NTFS DRIVE TO COPY TO OUR DCP SERVER.

OR MOST FESTIVALS REQUIRE A LINUX EXT3 DRIVE
