  • Discussion of PREMIS Metadata profile
  • "Object" is the digital file (pdf, tiff), NOT the paper objects
  • Administrative profile will describe the paper objects and the digitization process
  • If files are changed to another format, would  be useful to maintain repeating information found in PREMIS semantic units --> from Unmil: "The current decision is to use PREMIS obligations (mandatory, optional, repeatable, not repeatable, etc.) as specified in the description. Thus, mandatory semantic units will be included in all preservation profiles even when these units repeat data included in other profiles."
  • Examination of technical profile created by student group --> do we need technical profile?
  • Unmil: what standard to use to describe aggregation of files that represent levels of archival description (e.g., intellectual objects such as a register or a series/sub-series)? --> DACS; from Unmil: "The sourceResource.descriptive.relation property will point to such aggregate objects. The aggregates will represent objects in the enhanced CSH finding aid."
  • File size should be in bytes (not MB, as mined by ImageMagik)
  • Unmil: reminder of need to create a model that can be used by others and we don't know what decision others will need to make
• Carson is leaving for a new job --> possible replacement? Need to consult with Ciaran and Pat

  • Unmil has been in touch with Heidi Dowding at Indiana, who is working on a/v digital preservation repository (HydraDAM2)
• Unmil: revisiting our guiding principles --> need to make running list of decisions, which will be important for modeling
• Question of what to do with PDFs that Crowley produced
