• Three versions of each file: original and two derivatives (thumbnail and full JPG)

• Nitin has done a file-level inventory of the hard drives through HD#4

  • No derivatives found for #2-3

  •  Discussed items that have “a” or “b” at end of filename--> probably reflective of verso/recto

•  Discussion about what is the archival unit and what should be in the archival package

  • Difference between an archival unit (e.g., a single TIFF scan) and an intellectual unit (e.g., front and back of a photo)

•  Should derivatives be packaged with original scans or create derivative on demand? Storage space concerns

•  Metadata profiles

  • Descriptive

  • Technical

  • Unmil has three students scrapping TIFF files for EXIF --> they could use guidance about what technical metadata to retain (Lorrie will help)

  • Another three students are creating workflows to crowd source words for a database; is there a possible connection with the other student project?

•   Need to create more access files --> Unmil will make access copies of microfilm scans so Lorrie can determine the file structures
