Accomplished tasks

Lansa
  • installed SSL certificates on the capps.its VM

    • we required two certs:

      • one for the general capps host name – includes applications for BMIL (plastic, plasticmm, fakescar), Gone to Texas, TxReadability

      • the other for the UTeach portfolio application

    • there are a few ways to install multiple certificates on a single machine:

      • use Server Name Indication (SNI) so that the client requests the domain name before the server commits to a certificate or have multiple IP addresses

      • SNI requires Apache v2.2.12, the Lansa stack currently has Apache v2.2.11

      • as a result, I requested a second IP address with portfolio.uteach as the resolving host

        • set up the Apache with a mixed name-based and IP-based virtual host configuration

        • currently capps.its.utexas.edu is set up as 146.6.100.153 and the IP address for portfolio.uteach.utexas.edu is 146.6.100.156; they both forward all port 80 http traffic to https on port 443

    • we need to update a number of packages on the server including Apache, Tomcat and OpenSSH
