Equipment Notes
This page provides some information on the equipment present in our labs, and should be useful for people looking to repair, modify or enhance them. Also present is a partial inventory of components available in the lab.
Newport Fiber Alignment Stage 561D
This stage has been fitted with an FC fiber holder (Newport 561-FCH) and differential micrometers. It should be fairly straightforward to use, and can be found on the optics table either in the PL Lab or Design and Simulation.
The ball bearings on the micrometers tend to fall of easily, and this can be a source of pain. A spare ball bearing has been taped to the device itself. In case more replacements are needed, the stainless steel ball has a diameter of about 0.256 inches or 6.5 mm, and it should be fairly straightforward to obtain replacements. For the record, Kumar got these replacements directly from Newport.
