This page discusses the Banerjee group Lakeshore probe station

Last Updated by: ESW August 2016

Introduction

The Lakeshore probe system consists of 6 probes that can be used for electrical characterization of materials and devices. It has vacuum and temperature-dependent measurement capabilities.

Training

Contact Hema Movva or Amritesh Rai for training and certification. Scheduling is done via yahoo calendar, with preference for Banerjee group users.

Procedure

  • Vent and load sample

    • Close Viton valve to turbo/scroll pump

    • Vent using N2 hookup to ~ 800 psi

    • Remove glass lid on probe station

    • Mount sample

    • Re-install glass slid if doing temp dependent or in vacuum measurements - for open air measurements, not necessary

    • Pump down if temp dependent or in vacuum measurement

  • Measurement

    • Check probe connections to B1500 or lock in amplifier, if using

    • Land probes on sample or sample contacts in appropriate orientation (vdP or 4 point probe for sheet resistance measurements)

    • Typically probes 1, 2, 3 and 4 are used for measurement - 5 and 6 are designed for RF measurements
